Chocolate Bar Packaging

Packaging

Personal
This project was designing the packaging for a fictional chocolate bar from the company "Choco Rica". The requirement was to convey Costa Rican culture and quality.

I researched pre-Colombian Costa Rican culture and was excited to learn that the area was an exciting place where several Mesoamerican cultures lived; the Nahuan and Muisca people.

Nahuan artists had to learn to converse with their hearts. Their art was colourful and of sacred imagery or depiciting everyday stories from the community.

Muisca artists focused more on decorative applied art and also worked in gold. Their artwork depicted deities, flora & fauna, abstract and anthro images.

The elements I wanted to pull from my research was the use of gold pigment and nature.
I had two ideas to begin with and I wanted to explore both of them. Through exploring the frog idea as a rasterised digital painting, I felt like it was the right direction. The jaguary vector illustration felt like a much stronger design. However, for future products, the frog or other animals can be used as part of the packaging.
