__ Lux Create by Inplace
La propuesta de diseño para la señalización del complejo está inspirada en la textura de la sequoia, el movimiento de su corteza, sus proporciones y la importancia general para la historia de Palo Alto. El nombre de la ciudad fue asignado en 1796, al momento de su fundación, por el tamaño y gran visibilidad de una sequoia gigante ubicada en el Área de la Bahía de San Francisco, y que servía a los marineros como punto de referencia para saber dónde hacer escala y descansar. El viaje se hacía una o dos veces al año y los viajantes eran en general distintos a los del año anterior, por lo que era necesario utilizar referencias geográficas claras para el cambio de tripulaciones.
Hoy Palo Alto es el sello oficial tanto de la Universidad de Stanford como de la Ciudad de Palo Alto. A partir de un diseño limpio, simple y significativo, que rompe con la rigidez de la materialidad y las formas arquitectónicas de concreto, nuestro diseño orgánico y lineal gana verticalidad y capitaliza el sentido histórico del árbol como hito y punto de referencia.

For this Palo Alto landmark property, Inplace proposes a clean, simple and meaningful design, that is a fresh break from the some what hard concrete architectural forms that are inherent to the property. Consideration came from the origins of Palo Alto’s name. In 1796 Palo Alto was named after a giant sequoia called “El Palo Alto”, by Spanish sailors who traced the route of the Galleon Manila.
The name was assigned by the size and high visibility of the tree as seen from the San Francisco Bay Area when the sailors arrived, and served as a reference point to know where to stop and rest, prior to returning on the difficult trip back to the Philippines. The voyage was made once or twice a year. The sailors were generally different from the previous year, so it was necessary to use clear geographical references for thechanging crews, hence “Docking near El Palo Alto”.
