BA HONOURS 2020:
PROCESS & EXPLORATORY WORK
__________________
This project is a documentation of the most relevant process work that has led to the formulation of my final body of work's visual language. The images presented have been created with the specific intention to explore alternative making approaches and make valuable mistakes. Making mistakes is crucial to my creative process. They provide me with insightful knowledge about my creative process's inner workings, the mediums I used, and the techniques applied.

TOP | This is a collection of curious images extracted from my archives on Instagram and Pinterest. Every time I see something that interests me, I archive it. The more images are saved, the more saturated the meaning becomes. Eventually all the images are encapsulated in a single narrative which is produced from amalgamating the different conversations happening between the images. This way of mapping my interests allows me to see what type of visual trends I follow and what subject matters interest me. Many of these, if not all, images communicate a sense of nostalgia. It is evident by the faded-warm use of colour, the colour of the paper used to make the artworks/background fill, the grainy and scratchy texture (similar to a film photograph) and the nature-orientated subject matters.
BOTTOM | These are a few of the inspirational artists who served as muses during my honours degree.
"Making these images was mentally challenging. The purpose of this process was to remind me not to be precious over my work. It is okay to make imperfect images. If an image does not come out as intended, it is not necessarily incorrect. Criticism must rather be replaced with critical reflection - learn from your mistakes, observe the process, pinpoint the problems, experiment even more to solve them."
