Into the temples' shadow

Into the temples' shadow

Modern and ancient, chaotic and calm, polluted and untouched, sacred and profane... these and many others are the contradiction that make the soul of beautiful Cambodia. Moving through worlds both near and far in time and space, I have gathered in this photographic collection my experience of this fascinating and magical land, focusing on two of its most important cities: Siem Reap and Phon Penh.
Siem Reap rises near Angkor, an ancient spiritual centre born form the harmony between Hinduism and Buddhists, capital of the Kmher kingdom from the 9th to the 15th century, today is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you can breath the history of the country, here lay the foundations upon which the country emerged. Walking through them, you cannot remain indifferent admiring its Temples, built to celebrate the ancient kings. This reality completely out of the contemporary world, surrounds us with its magical and peaceful atmosphere giving us a glimpse of a timeless history.

Economic and political center, seat of government and home to more than 1,5 million Cambodians. Phnom Penh is the capital and beating heart of this country, Its streets are full of peddlers pushing carts laden with all sort of exotic food and fruits, and the air is full of excitement, where traditional markets stand alongside new, modern, lush buildings. Here, past and present merge to create a city in constant evolution.
