Heat-detecting McDonald's billboard dishes out McFlurries when it's warm

McDonalds teams up with advertising companies to devise novel way of handing freebies to help people stay cool in soaring temperatures.

McDonalds has devised the novel billboard which dishes out McFlurry ice creams when the temperatures soars. It teamed up with advertising companies JCDecaux and TBWA for the campaign in Amsterdam which was triggered when the mercury hit 38.6 degrees - 101.4 Fahrenheit. Once the temperature was hit a panel on the advertising board opened, handing out 100 McFlurry cups to pedestrians which then could be redeemed at a branch.
As summer temperatures reach record values, it’s time for nice refreshments.
A billboard with a built-in temperature sensor controls a mechanism that opens the billboard when a record-high temperature is reached. Every cup in the billboard represents a free McFlurry at McDonald’s.
Loads of free publicity, and not only in the Netherlands.
