SONY BRAVIA MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY
A series of images that were shot for Sony to use across their new range of Bravia televisions.
The goal was to capture exquisitely detailed macro images of various birds feathers with exquisite colour, shape and form so as to closely reflect the characteristics and performance of each BRAVIA TV model.
Every image is a composite of around 100 individual shots, each one capturing a different point of focus across the surface of the feather. Each batch is then combined using a focus stacking process that results in an image of stunning depth of detail that is often difficult to gauge in terms of true scale. In reality these images are quite small ranging from anywhere between 2cm and 5cm in length. As shown below a Porcupine quill acts as the perfect styling tool when working with such small subject matter.
Each shot can take up to 5 minutes to capture so holding the feathers firmly in place was crucial for a successful shoot. Flexible clamps were used to ensure nothing would move as each stack of shots was captured. They were also vital for creating interesting intersecting shapes when several feathers featured within one composition.
The final set of 6 images are shown below set across each of the BRAVIA screens they represent.
