Ashby-Adeline Corridor Neighborhood Plan

UNDERGRADUATE CITY PLANNING STUDIO FINAL PROJECT
PROFESSOR ALLAN JACOBS, UC BERKELEY

OBJECTIVE
Respond to class research findings about the Ashby BART station area and create a neighborhood revitalization plan.

DESIGN
Reclaim the excess width of the Adeline right-of-way for a linear park (my individual project).  Transform the BART parking lot into a housing-focused transit-oriented development.  Create a network of pedestrian-oriented green streets and business-highlighting districts to encourage health and economic vitality.

CONCEPT
Heal the physical, civic and economic wounds left by decades of abuse inflicted on this vibrant community.

In addition to this studio project, I completed a term paper on the history of the same South Berkeley neighborhood. The paper uncovered the process though which several blocks of homes and businesses were allowed to be demolished to make way for the BART train and station in South Berkeley in the 1950s and the devastating effect it had on the community. Paper is available upon request.
