POSSIBILITIES
Series
______
With this series I turn to painting again after a longer break. I was incessantly searching for "my" motifs, techniques, modes of expression and vacillated back and forth. To put an end to this hustle and bustle, I decided to turn first to geometry, that is, to basic geometric shapes. And it was a liberation on the one hand, because the motifs are clearly and immovably defined, so that no energy has to be spent on searching for motifs. And on the other hand, the realisation that even clearly defined fixed motifs, i.e. geometric shapes, hold a wealth of possibilities for painterly expression, which also led to the title of the series. It is to be understood as a first study and is intended to illustrate the countless variations that geometric forms offer. This series acts like a flow chart of possibilities.
For this series, I was inspired by Piet Mondrian and "De Stijl", among others. In contrast to the art theory of De Stijl, which only accepts vertical/horizontal, large/small, light/dark as well as the basic colours, I also use slants and curves to be able to use the basic geometric forms of triangle and circle. I find that this creates more tension in the drawings, and in addition - in keeping with the title - there are more possibilities for design. The geometric structure stands detached and free in space, besides black and paper white I have chosen two other colours as an expression of a duality that we encounter in many aspects of life.
