ABOUT NIGHTINGALE

Nightingale is a body text and display serif that takes its inspiration from the
Japanese music collective: Geinoh Yamashirogumi

This typeface expresses the quirky, expressive and celebratory yet light and angelic sounds of the collective. It is a time-honoured presentation of human sophistication, grace and mystery. It is inspired by Geinoh Yamashirogumi’s Ecophony Rinne and Gaia albums.

Geinoh Yamashirogumi are known for both their faithful re-creations of folk music from around the world, as well as their fusion of various traditional musical styles with modern instrumentation and synthesizers. In the 1980s, MIDI digital synthesizers could not handle the tuning systems of traditional gamelan music, so the group had to teach themselves how to program in order to modify their equipment. Their music is a mix of Indonesian chromatic percussion, traditional Japanese theatrical and spiritual music, choir sounding vocal work, European classical, and progressive rock.

Nightingale is a typeface for all serif lovers who enjoy sophisticated, delicate and elevating type designs. Nightingale works greatly with prints, editorials, fashion, advertising and packaging. Though it is designed as a body text, Nightingale has plenty of special features that make it unique as a display type as well.
