Starfish Pop-Up Store

THE RETURN OF THE GIFT: NEW MATERIALISM & THE CLOSED LOOP
This design is for a temporary retail store for environmentally-aware New Zealand fashion label Starfish, aiming to celebrate the gift of life, taken from the earth as a raw material, processed and transformed into a product for consumers, and encourage them to return it to the earth in an endless biological cycle (2).
Starfish sources their materiality for their products from the earth (cotton, linen, hemp) so my store encourages customers to return this gift after purchase, through the planting of the shopping bag (1) - made from plantable seed paper.

My pop up store focuses on the two theories of..

1. New Materialism (Charles Eisenstein): Finding beauty in this we usually throw away
2. Cradle 2 Cradle(William McDonough & Michael Braungart): The biological loop - taking from the earth and returning back to the earth

..both creating zero waste.
