A Quiet Moment Of Self Reflection...
With this shoot I wanted to create a sense of emotion by using the dreariness of the weather. I liked the concept of playing with self reflection and how this should be a peaceful moment. The decision to shoot in monochrome came about when I thought about drowning out your surroundings and how sometimes we have to take a step back and look at things from a different perspective or focus on the small details rather than the big picture. Furthermore, I also wanted to create an image that reflected my mood at the time of the shoot after suffering bad news about my health. I think it really helped my photography to fully submerge myself in these emotions and just purely shoot without overthinking it. I looked for the beauty in the everyday. I feel like I successfully achieved a somber mood that was tainted with loneliness and possibly even despair. The combination of the high ISO and a low shutter speed allowed me to create some bokeh in my work which I thought added to the idea I was trying to present as the edges are all fuzzy and unclear and I liked the connotations of this when it came to my main idea about identity because at the end of the day how can we ever say we know exactly who we are? As well as having the dim glimmer of hope that things will always get better.
