FORCED TO CLOSE

In January 2020, Covid-19 arrived in Malaysia. Brushed off by many as just another virus, it wasn't long before Covid taught us otherwise. By March 2020, the government imposed a nationwide lockdown to control the rapid spread of the virus. As everyone was forced to stay home, stuck at home was the least of the problem for many others.

Our favourite nasi lemak makciks, vegetable man, mamak abangs and gerai pakciks were in risk of closing for good as many had to close their doors to dine-ins and walk-ins.

CLOSED DOORS SHOULDN'T MEAN CLOSED FOR BUSINESS

Creating a digital platform to help local businesses reach out to customers, both old and new.

Many of our local hawkers and businesses had no way of reaching their regulars and new customers. Most of them had little to no digital knowledge and could not afford to use the existing digital platforms in the market, many of which charged high commission fees to be featured.

As a bank that identifies strongly as a local Malaysian, we knew we had to help, after all, kita Sama-Sama Lokal ma (we're all locals).

The Sama-Sama Lokal platform was thus created, offering local businesses:

1) A digital store to market their wares
2) Guided assistance on setting up a store
3) Delivery services by 3rd party agents (subsidised partially)
4) No commission charges to be featured
5) Campaigns and promotions to boost awareness and increase sales
