I have always been inspired by bootleg fashion and design. A few weeks prior to this project, I attended a workshop for analog printing using screen printing at Kapitaal in Utrecht. I thought it would be a good experiment to combine these art styles.
When I was young I was a huge Disney fan, and I still have some Walt Disney illustrations hanging in my room. I decided to make a bootleg Mickey design, where he would be the opposite of a children's character. So I drew him with a skull for a head.
Below is the original drawing. I took a see-through sheet and traced the design so I could make a screen with it.
For the color of the print I chose a pastel purple or Lila, because it was becoming a very popular color in fashion. I test printed once on paper, and proceeded to print the design all over a t-shirt and pairs of socks.
These are the results for the t-shirts, I made 5 shirts and sold out:
A friend of mine spilled tomato sauce at the bottom of her shirt, so she tailored it to a croptop and a facemask.
For the sock, I printed around 17 pairs and sold out. I still see people wearing it, they say the socks are iconic.
