The Rise of a Nation, 30 years in Pictures

CAPTURING THE JOURNEY OF THE UAE IN MORE THAN 1,900 PICTURES

3 years in the making, ‘The Rise of a Nation’ – a coffee table book that tells the fascinating story of UAE, through a curated collection of more than 1,900 pictures taken by the staff photographers of Gulf News, who have been recording life in the UAE for more than 30 years.

The 400 page book is organised by year, and within each year, into themes, including major political and national events, social occasions, the business life of the UAE, and sporting events. Each of these four threads in the UAE’s life is followed all the way from 1978 up to 2011.

The title and page dividers feature clean readable typography over a metallic Pantone color, giving an accent of elegance and prestige. Following this idea, and taking in consideration that this book could be used constantly for historical reference, a dust jacket was designed and every picture on the book was varnished independently from the page to protect them from the continuous handling.

Winner of The Best Emirati Book Award at the Sharjah International Book Fair 2011.
