Character design for animation

The result
A character fully prepared for any animation process. Including lip sync, emotions, expressions, and a wide range of motion. Vector design and joints created using the Motion Design School plugin Character tool.
Primary concept and final result.
The process
The design of the character and his physical qualities was done entirely in Illustrator. By first composing the character in a base position and then adapting it to various poses to design all the elements. The sketch of the figure of the character with geometric figures helps to define the base shape in a more accurate way.
Poses and emotions.
Before animating it is important to define with the greatest possible certainty the different facets of the character (if the character will be used in the long term) or at least design the character in the most important key positions of the final animation.
Gestures and expressions.
A series of expressions were also designed to increase the range of emotions that the character can represent. Since the face is the main window to the personality and emotions of a character, it is very important to understand how to achieve those subtle but significant changes in expressions.
Walk cycles also speak a lot about character and its personality. It is very important to imagine how they move based on their way of being. For example, someone big but friendly doesn't move like a big, grumpy person. Only with a change of attitude can you have a totally different walk when animating a character.
When you bring everything together you have a character whose energy and life you can feel in every movement. And that is really satisfying for you as an motion designer as well.
