Greg Klarfeld's profile

Whitewall Magazine

Whitewall magazine is a contemporary art and lifestyle magazine. For their new logo, I explored ways of communicating the idea of luxury without the excess and 'bling' often associated with it. Linotype's Didot, a serif font with strong contrasts between the strokes, was used as a base. The serifs were removed and extra space was created by cutting of bits of the thin hairlines to air our the letters but keep a sophisticated look.

Whitewall is published quarterly and each issue treats a different theme. All texts and titles are composed in Akzidenz Grotesk, a very legible sans-serif that adds dynamism with its variety of weights.

Images and text were placed on either side of an upward tilted median.
Once again, the median allows for a dynamic way of placing information on a page.
Taking full advantage of the magazine's format (about 26x35cm), large images can be used.
