The
Berlin Brandenburg Airport
SERIES

Like every major present-day construction project, the „new“ Berlin Brandenburg Airport made the headlines.
The German media commented the non-progress and cost-explosion of the construction. October 2020, 14 years after the beginning of construction and shortly before the starting signal, this series leads through the gigantic building complex. The images are showing the unopened and not quite finished airport in a state of calm, before it transitions into its natural mode of constant activity.

Despite the basic formal design by gmp Architekten, a simple grid stretching out over the entire area, inside as well as outside of the buildings, the project became one of the largest construction and financial failures in modern German history. Most of the planned and installed technologies at the airport are already outdated and cannot be replaced. A replacement is unaffordable due to immense expenditure and extremely high cost as well as a lack of time. With more than three times the planned total costs, the airport is already bankrupt before even opening. The story of the catastrophic airport is not over yet.
