A university project was given to Industrial Design students (myself included) find a problem, design & research the solution and produce, manufacture and market a product in order to achieve a
goal of obtaining a R5000 profit.

The Problem:
Cycling is becoming increasingly popular in South Africa. Many cyclists travel in order to ride in interesting areas or to compete in cycling events. In most cases cyclists use motor vehicles to reach these destinations which involve transporting their bicycles using bicycle racks. These racks are mounted on the rear of the motor vehicle and are causing visual obstruction of the vehicles number plate. This obstruction is illegal and results in cyclists receiving R500 fines from the traffic department. If a spare number plate is used, it must be illuminated in order to maintain legality.

The Solution:
A spare, modular number plate holder.

This was a collaborative group project.
