Social Identities
Final Year University Project
My final year Uni project explores the phenomenon of fashion and dress from an anthropological standpoint. It focuses on ‘street style’, as I felt this was a topical subject with its current prevalence in fashion magazines and blogs/websites, but attempts to explore a more realistic side to the complex relationship between humans dress. This meant gathering street style imagery from a range of locations, scaling from some of the most deprived to some of the most affluent communities in England. This highlighted how dress is undeniably a visual indicator for how people in an unequal society experience culture and one of the major forces shaping social experience and heirachy. This inspired the creative, concept- led fashion editorials in the book, which allowed me to become art director, stylist, photographer, artworker, copywriter and more. A challenging but engaging and rewarding project that has developed my skills in all areas of creative direction for fashion.
