Creatures shining like special effects in the dark depths of the world’s oceans: Photographer and adventurer Tobias Friedrich shows the exceptional forms, colours and patterns of marine life in complete darkness. Blackwater dive sessions have a special appeal to the underwater photographer and bring to light the unique aesthetics of the sea dwellers.

Structured into seven chapters, the book »Geheimnisvolle Schönheiten« (»Mysterious Beauties«) spectacularly displays the splendour of the creatures. For the chapters we developed a depth finder as running title to provide the readers with a visual anchor and to let them symbolically dive into the book. The focus is, however, on the pictures of the amazing marine flora.
