This was a collaboration with the marketing and copywriting team, and the resident developers at Smartling, Inc over a two-month period. Our goal was to present the information pertaining to the translation services and solutions the company offers in a matter that was straightforward and easy to understand for company CEOs and translators alike.
To manage the complexity and breadth of Smartling's services, we organized everything under the Platform umbrella. We crafted appropriate copy and presented it conversationally on the Platform landing page, to make it clear that these services came together to form a complete business translation package, from start to finish.
My role was to design the user interface for the Platform page, as well as the pages going in more detail about each of the services/solutions the company offers.
We started off with wireframing some ideas and went through several iterations of layout options, while at the same time re-writing much of the copy to account for roadblocks, such as the layouts becoming too complex and the navigation tree too deep on account of too much information.
I created appropriate graphics where necessary, and I became greatly invested in the copywriting process in order to better understand the company's offerings, and how they wanted to convey the information.
The result was delivered in high-fidelity Photoshop mockups, with a heavy use of Layer Comps (a Photoshop feature I've come to really appreciate for the close approximation to mocking up interaction stages and alternative layouts). I kept these well documented to guide the developers in matters of colors, font-size, line-height, grid measurements, etc.
Because a large part of the Smartling website was already established, I had to stay within certain guidelines: color palette, typefaces, brand guidelines, and existing layout mainstays, such as the header and the footer.
