Portraits of Sok Sabay

Editorial
Portraits of Sok Sabay offers an intimate look at the life of 34 individuals from the eponymous NGO shelter in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We collaborated closely with award-winning photographer Stefen Chow on this book.
Portraits of Sok Sabay chronicles 34 profile of Cambodians who were taken into the shelter of Sok Sabay, an NGO set up in Cambodia by French nurse Marie Cammal, since they were orphan.

Through the lens of World Press Photo winning photographer Stefen Chow, and with thoughtful and considered design direction, the book captures the stories of ‘aftermath’ for these individuals since leaving the shelter, and offers a look into where their lives are today, carefully treading the fine line between telling their stories modestly and sincerely without overtly falls into celebratory tone.
The book honors the individuals by rendering their names to dominate the cover, to place emphasis on them in an austere simplicity. Each individual name, in a conceptual portraiture frame expressed as a tactile emboss, link their story from cover into the book, with each threading their own paths.
