ZINE MAKING:

 

My zine is based on A6 size 24 pages book, and  I seperated it to 3 chapter. The first chapter is about objects collection and taxonomy; the second chapter is about my research about the cap structure and drawings; the last chapter is about the cap graphics.

The idea of my zine is mainly from old instruction books and manuals. I was going to use French folding and special cover, and some of pages would use Risograph to print.

CONTENT:

CAP COLLECTION: People almost touch caps everyday, they are the most common stuffs in our daily life. I collect 60 caps from my rental house with in two weeks, most of them are super usual and common to see in every person’s home, such as caps of mineral water bottles, salt cases or shampoo bottles. All the caps’ size and colour are different, and there are a couple of sort based on different functions.

MATERIAL AND IMPERMEABILITY: The cap likes the partner of the bottle, the cap made of different materal should matches specific container with suitable texture of material. They are designed with some rules for one important reason - the function of impermeability.

Nomally, a glass bottle matches metallic cap or plastic cap. If the cap is a kind of bung, it should be made of glass, rubber or cork wood. Then, the plastic bottle always matches the plastic cap, which has the same texture of material. Next, the metallic bottle nomally matches the plastic cap with the rubber ring, such as sports kettle of aluminium.

COLOUR AS VISUAL LANGUAGE: My mainly taxonomy of the cap is based on the colour. I thought that the most common colour for the cap should be white before I made the typology project. But I realized that I made a mistake about that. I found that the largest number of the cap is the red cap, which is based on the cap in my house. Then, I just went to the supermarket, and I found it is - so many products are using red caps, especially bottles for food.
Then, I found that the medicine and cosmetics usage of the cap’s colour is white and blue. And the cap’s colour of the bottle might be black if the usage is not about food or medicine or Cosmetics.

FUNCTIONAL DESIGN: We will discover a small world if searching inside of the cap. The structure design of the cap is really amazing which is full of artificial beauty. Such as some kinds of screw caps, different types with different screw, depends on the function. In my collection, there are a couple of types available, and I record them by using structure charts.
