Ancient Bristlecone Pine Tree

Ancient Bristlecone Pine Tree

"The desert wears… a veil of mystery. Motionless and silent, it evokes in us an elusive hint of something unknown, unknowable, about to be revealed. Since the desert does not act, it seems to be waiting — but waiting for what?"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
~ Edward Abbey

Bristlecones are prevalent and protected in Nevada's Great Basin National Park. One of the longest living organisms on earth, some have been known to live for over 5,000 years.

I wanted to create an image to honor one of these ancient trees. I used a lot of large, bold black areas to convey the strength of the tree. By shading with a swirl of linework, I created energy for the image.
