Petra Sagaydachnogo street in Kyiv is going to become a traffic-free zone in the near future, which calls for a totally different nature of interaction between the public space and the adjacent buildings.
As we expect all the current functions and programmes in the existing buildings to become increasingly democratic and accessible, we suggest a project which is a prototype of the future, a hub for social activities and cooperation, where all functions complement each other.
Facade pattern
Depending on the time of day, the perforated brick masonry lends two absolutely different appearances to the building. In artificial lighting the flesh of the house becomes partially transparent thanks to the glass structures that showcase everything happening inside.
Each function has a front entrance from the pedestrian street, whereas deliveries and technical maintenance are performed from the courtyard. The patio is the core of the project. It accumulates all the major premises of the building. The lower part of the complex disguises the higher five-story part from the street profile. The higher volume is located in the middle of the courtyard, but it still enjoys a view over St.Andrew church and the hills.
