The Singularity of Detroit

Detroit - a decayed city. The whole project was an experiment. The history of Detroit is folded in every single site and place. What will happen if one tries to fold it even more into a three dimensional object? How to approach this task? The video shows the way used in this project.

Singularity
Detroit itself is a failed utopia. As far as the history shows, every utopia has to fail in the real world. It is in its nature. If we want to make a center for the study of utopias, we have to isolate it from the real world, create a separate area, so the utopias have a safe environment to develop. Thinking further, utopia is a kind of a singularity - like in a black hole and it may exist only behind an event horizon. The building became a singularity of Detroit.

If we think about places like a library or lecture hall, we usually see the volumes of space. But what is the core of those places? It is information. It is data. Data does not need a physical space. It needs a way to be distributed. horizontal ramps are "rooms". Every room has its own wireless web that people can connect to. From this moment to be in the library means to connect with the library. Still, to make a connection, people must reach a certain platform, so they can physically experience the space of the building.

Choose which conference or lecture you want to experience. Being in the "conference room" does not mean that everybody is in the same place and time. Go on and connect to your own space time.
