Hi, I’m Alison. When it comes to design and the web, I am a linchpin.

What is a linchpin? It is defined as ‘a fastener used to prevent a wheel or other part from sliding off the axle upon which it is riding‘. In short, it holds a mechanism together – many parts rely on one linchpin to function successfully. For startups and small business owners, I am that army of one.

I began my career in print design but found myself taking on marketing tasks as well. The beauty of working for small teams is the variety of roles you end up in. Then the web caught my attention: I was struck by how it brings people, opportunities and ideas together. I now focus on helping business owners obtain their goals online.

I’ve also had the privilege of providing my design and marketing services for 5 major events in Nova Scotia: Halifax Pride Festival 2014, Queer Acts 2014, Halifax Comedy Festival 2012 and 2013, Halifax International Busker Festival 2012 and 2013 and Hal-Con 2012.

When I’m not freelancing, I burn drawings onto wood and head up E3C, a Meetup in Halifax that promotes visual artists to foster fellowship and growth within their industries. I also started a WordPress Meetup in Halifax to help connect the wider user, designer and developer community for that platform. Read Less
