A botanical artist, I use watercolour and graphite and work on paper and vellum.

I have been painting for 8 years after having had many other lives. My current life pays the least, but rates the highest in terms of satisfaction.
My art presents a moment suspended, encapsulating both beauty and stillness so that the viewer can appreciate and contemplate the nature of a world in balance.

My art presents a moment suspended, encapsulating both beauty and stillness so that the viewer can appreciate and contemplate the nature of a world in balance.

Most people record the image of plants and animals at the height of their beauty, in full bloom. My subjects are chosen for what they have been through. There is a story worth telling in a plant or animal as it starts to change, decay and disintegrate. It should not be ignored as ugly or worthless. It should be appreciated for what it is as well as what it was.

My work represents a personal response to the objects I draw and paint, and while representational it operates at a number of levels: superficially there is the image of the plant or animal, the subject itself; at another level is the metaphor – the passage of time, the aging of us as individuals, changing relationships, or the changes we are bringing about to our planet through our uncaring or thoughtless actions. Each work presents a moment of significance and, because of that, the promise of possibility.
