Civilization was built on a collaborative foundation by Michael Ellsworth, Corey Gutch and Gabriel Stromberg. Since our inception the studio has grown into a team of nine, specializing in building identity systems, digital experiences, printed materials, environmental graphics and exhibitions that are engaging, empathetic, and sustainable, and create meaningful connections. Working with those committed to creating positive change, the studio’s clients include the National Head Start Association, The Nature Conservancy, Shout Your Abortion, The Museum of History & Industry, and The Biennale of Sydney. Civilization’s work is in the permanent collection of SFMoMA, has won numerous awards, including the 2017 Webby Award for Best Activist Website, and has been featured in global media outlets such as The Guardian, The New York Times, Huffington Post, and NPR.

In addition to their studio work, they are committed to creating accessible experiences that inspire, educate and connect with the creative community. They do this with a variety of not–for–profit programs including The Design Lecture Series, their podcast - Beyond This Point, and their exhibition space - Non–Breaking Space. Read Less
