White's painting uses a system of organic structure, which is fluid and influenced by the elements of the land, and that is informed both by memory and observation. White aligns himself with the Australian history of painters such as Tony Tuckson taking an emphasis on the materiality to influence the image making process. In this body of work, through the observation and close inspection of historical paint surfaces that is, then informed via memory, incorporating a sense of complex history and bold gesture, searching for a purer whole rather than defining the particular. The echoes of landscape are somehow described more clearly through the bold gesture, amplified and imbued with complex language pertaining to the body in relation to the inhabited environment rather than just describing a particular illustrated moment.
Anthony White has exhibited widely over the past decade. Recent exhibitions during 2016 have included Art Central Contemporary art fair in Hong Kong with Metro Gallery, Crossing The Rubicon at Nanda Hobbs Contemporary Sydney, As The Sleeper Wakes and Pentimento both at Metro Gallery Melbourne 2015 and 2016 respectively. White has been regularly curated into solo and group presentations focusing on contemporary painting internationally as well as throughout the Asia Pacific region. White has been awarded a number of international commissions and residencies, which have reportedly been influential in developing his body of work -The Marten Bequest for Painting 2007,The Elioth Gruner Prize for Landscape Painting Art Gallery of NSW 2005 and the FONAS Paris Studio at La Cite Internationale Des Arts 2009,an artist in residency to the Leipzig International Art Programme in Leipzig Germany.
Anthony White is represented by The Cat St Gallery,Hong Kong, Metro Gallery Melbourne, Nanda Hobbs Contemporary Sydney and Ideel Art France. Taken from the catalogue published by Martin Brown and Anthony White at the DIsplacement Exhibition at Le Pavé D'Orsay Paris.
