Stephen Robert is a respected New York executive who formerly led the securities-focused Oppenheimer Group, Inc., as chairman and CEO. A longtime member of the Council on Foreign Relations, he has guided a number of study groups as chairperson. Stephen Robert also informs the Watson Institute for International Studies in oversight capacities and is a trustee with the New York Presbyterian Medical Center.

Along with his wife Pilar, Mr. Robert is a founder of the philanthropically-focused Source of Hope Foundation. He and his wife have spearheaded charitable activities spanning Haiti, New York, and sub-Saharan Africa, with an emphasis on providing communities in need with health care, water, food, and education. They also set in place Source of Hope Foundation microfinance programs that enable local people to develop sustainable businesses.

Mr. Robert’s activities on behalf of the less fortunate extend to directing the humanitarian aid organization Millennium Promise, which has a sizable presence in Africa. Well published, Mr. Robert authored the article “Apartheid on Steroids” (The Nation, 2011) articulating his views on Israel and Palestine, which he came to while traveling in the West Bank. Read Less
