Pediatric surgeon Dr. Mark J. Holterman currently serves as a professor of surgery and pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, a position he has held since 2011. In addition to educating students, he conducts his own research, with interests in regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies, autoimmunity, novel cancer therapies, and obesity. Mark J. Holterman, MD, has also presented his research at conferences around the world, recently discussing regenerative medicine applications in pediatrics at the International Stem Cell Society meeting in the Bahamas. He has also contributed chapters to textbooks and is a reviewer for the Journal of Immunology and the Journal of Pediatric Surgery.

Dr. Mark J. Holterman studied biology and psychology as an undergraduate student at Yale University, where he earned a bachelor of arts and graduated cum laude. He then earned a PhD in immunology and an MD from the University of Virginia. Dr. Holterman completed additional training at the University of Virginia and the University of Washington and spent two years as a research associate at the Institute of Montreal.
