I Photograph things I see. There are themes and visual triggers that run through my Photographs. Mostly it is the recording of light and its reaction on things I see in life. Shadow, contrast, tone, color, and the placing of those on the "plate" served to the viewer.
I have been making images of one kind or another for as long as I can remember.
The first time I entered a Darkroom I was taken by the environment. Cool, dark, stainless steel.
In 1968 I bought my first real camera at Wolk's on Wabash here in Chicago. A NIKKORMAT FTN with a 50mm f1.4 NIKKOR lens. That same year, my last in High School, a recruiter from The University of Illinois Chicago Circle Campus visited our class. The Walter Netsch Architecture and the availability of classes in Photography sold me. I started in Fall 1968 and received my Diploma, a B.A. in Design in 1974. In 1973 I applied for the M.F.A. to The Visual Studies Workshop, The Rhode Island School of Design, and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I went east to Providence RI meeting with and showing work to Aaron Siskind & Harry Callahan then to Rochester NY and Nathan Lyons. Was accepted into the M.F.A. program at The VSW and The SAIC. For personal reasons I stayed in Chicago. Eventually, after some time off, I received my M.F.A. in 1982. The Diploma is dated December 31,1982.

I worked Commercially as a Photographer in Catalog Studios and freelanced here in Chicago for about 15 years. Among other jobs, I also worked as a Photographer's Assistant, Projectionist, and a Professional Photo Lab Technician.

Currently I am enjoying the opportunity to Photograph for myself. Doing something every day…
