I am inspired by the flowers, plants and creatures that Mother Nature has produced. The variety of colors and shapes found in the natural world fascinates me. Using stained glass, beads, millefiori, and my original photography, I create vibrant colorful mosaics. Mixing all these materials allows me to portray my interpretation of nature.
I have been creating art since I could pick up a pencil and draw. I graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2001 with a degree in Art. The life sized self-portrait above was a school project. I painted myself and the background is a collage with painted areas, all on a wooden door. I studied every medium available to me. While I didn’t learn about mosaics in school, what I did learn I use in my mosaics.
During college I was always searching for my medium. I thought Photography might be it since I have been experimenting with it since 1991, but it was missing the hands on building and creating. I made first mosaic in 2000 from a kit, it ended up in the garbage. I bought a few books to learn more and created a few pieces. Near the end 2010, I found a mosaic "Artist Trading Card" group and joined it. I started playing with my photography under the glass. I finally felt like I found my mediums! Within the next year, I was ready to start applying for exhibits. The past few years have been a really exciting time for me. Winning awards, exhibiting in many shows, Seeing people's excitement towards my work, changing the way they look at insects. It's pretty cool when you can change someone's mind.
