At their core, a biomedical artist is one who takes complex medical information, extracts the essential elements and communicates the idea with images, generally to an audience who does not have the same basic subject understanding the originator does.

Medical illustration has been most traditionally used in text books, education, museum exhibitions, and medical legal demonstrative exhibits. While those areas are still important, digital media has introduced web design, animation, 3d modeling, and educational game design as tools in the biomedical artist's arsenal.

Because of my experience with clinical trials, I've found additional applications for my skills in biomedical art. User documentation, electronic medical systems, informed consent forms (ICF), patient recruitment, and case report forms (CRF) can all be improved with an artist who understands the science and regulations behind them. These complex communication pieces could be made more user friendly, more scientifically accurate and easier to translate for global trials with the use of illustrations.

Please don't hesitate to call or email me if you need assistance with communicating complex scientific ideas. I would be happy to help.
