Operating a Jet Ski

Michael Angeleri served as a managerial assistant at Eastern Lift Truck in New Jersey, performing a variety of delivery and maintenance functions. In his spare time, Michael Angeleri enjoys water sports, such as jet skiing.

Jet skiing is fun and easy, but you have to be prepared. Before going out on the water, be sure that your life vest is in proper shape. Check to see that the battery on the jet ski is charged. It is also a good idea to test start the jet before leaving for your destination.

Once you are on the water, handling is fairly simple. Jet skis have three controls: an on button, an off button, and handlebars. You steer the jet by swiveling the handlebars. The handlebar on the right also has a throttle that controls the engine.

Jet skis have a built-in safety feature. The start key comes with a bracelet you wear on the wrist. If by accident you fall off, the bracelet pulls the key out of the ignition. This automatically stops the engine and keeps the jet ski from operating on its own.
