El proyecto está situado en la aljama judía de Calatayud, la cual fue la más importante de Aragón inmediatamente por detrás de la de Zaragoza. La judería se hallaba emplazada intramuros en una zona de difícil orografía en la parte noroccidental de la ciudad. Aunque la judería ya había sido objeto de algunas intervenciones arqueológicas de carácter puntual, entre los años 2005 y 2008 se han podido excavar tres solares contiguos ubicados a escasos metros de la puerta de Todelo. Allí se ha podido documentar una densa trama urbana que urbanísticamente responde a una ampliación a extramuros de la ciudad. Su ocupación se inicia como muy temprano en torno a los primeros años del siglo XIV y su final claramente en el año 1362, siendo destruido durante el sitio de Calatayud en la Guerra de los dos Pedros. Los hallazgos de varios fragmentos de ‘hanukiyah’ en el interior de las viviendas excavadas, elementos únicamente utilizados por la comunidad hebrea, nos permiten plantear la realidad de una ampliación a extramuros del barrio judío de Buraimalaco a principios del siglo XIV.
The project is located in the Jewish quarter of Calatayud, which was the most important in Aragon immediately behind of Zaragoza. The Jewish quarter was located intramurals in an area of difficult orography in the north-western part of the city. Although the Jewish quarter had already been the object of some archaeological interventions of a specific nature, between 2005 and 2008 three contiguous lots have been excavated a few meters from the ‘Puerta de Toledo’. There, it has been possible to document a dense urban plot that is urbanistically responding to an extension outside the city walls. Its occupation begins around the first years of the XIV century and its end clearly in the year 1362, being destroyed during the siege of Calatayud in the ‘Guerras de los dos Pedros’. The findings of several fragments of 'hanukiyah' inside the excavated dwellings, elements used only by the Hebrew community, allow us to raise the reality of an extension to the outer walls of the Jewish quarter of Buraimalaco at the beginning of the 14th century.
El proyecto nace del objetivo inicial de conectar dos grandes espacios públicos, uno pre-existente, la plaza del barrio de la consolación bajo; y un mirador, implantado en el solar de la calle La Torremocha mediante una sucesión de plataformas que van salvando el pronunciado desnivel de la zona. En este recorrido ascendente encontramos una serie de viviendas, con talleres privados a distintas alturas, para residencia de los artesanos. También encontramos talleres de ámbito público que nutren a unos espacios de desahogo anexos de las obras y creaciones de estos artesanos y sus alumnos. De esta forma se generan unos lugares donde relacionarse con las gentes del lugar. En cada plataforma se debe poder encontrar al menos una vivienda, un taller público o privado, y un espacio de desahogo acompañado en algunos casos por una zona verde, haciendo así más ameno el viaje ascendente hasta la plataforma final en forma de mirador con unas extraordinarias vistas al barrio judío de extramuros.
The project was born from the initial goal of connecting two large public spaces, one pre-existing and a viewpoint, implanted in the lot of La Torremocha Street through a succession of platforms that save the steep slope of the area. In this ascending tour we find a series of houses, with private workshops at different heights, for the residence of artisans. We also find public workshops that nourish some spaces of relief attached to the works and creations of these artisans and their students. In this way, some places where to relate to the people of the place are generated. In each platform you must be able to find at least one house, a public or private workshop, and a space of relief accompanied in some cases by a green area, making the trip up more enjoyable to the final platform in the form of a viewpoint with extraordinary views of the Jewish quarter.
