Form follows function. As designers we are resolved in this thinking. That doesn’t mean the form can’t change.  This project was geared towards re-evaluating the form of a wine key.  The goal was to exaggerate and diminish the characteristics of a wine key while keeping it’s intended function.
This wine key features a wider body with a triangular shape to easily fit the hand, and to keep it from rolling if placed on its side. The top of the key repeats the pattern of the body giving the user more torque.
The original wine key has two levers and two gears, which have been minimized to one of each. The lever has been flattened and conforms to the wine key body giving the user a bigger area to push.
Form factors are inspired by modern skyscrapers. Bright orange color call out the active parts of the wine key. Colors and textures are inspired by camera bodies and contemporary minimal wine labels.
