Well done (bastards)

Jealousy and insecurity are two traits that are very well represented in the advertising industry. So when we were asked to write ads for the Sunday Times congratulating other creatives on winning awards at the Campaign Brief awards, for a magazine that was released at the awards night, we got jealous and insecure... And then wrote ads about it that were placed in the magazine beside the nights winners.
COPY - So, here it goes. Well done, congratulations and all that stuff. You are a wonderful ad for a zoo or car insurer or whatever. Just spare a quick thought for me while you’re basking in the glory of your recently acquired award. I’m an ad in the Campaign Brief awards special. I sit beside a list of the greatest ads of the year, including you (sincerely, well done by the way). It’s not that I resent being here or anything, it’s just that the “creatives” responsible for me could have shown a little more dedication. If they had the nous to work on me until midnight that one night instead of going home at six thirty to feed the dog, or whatever that mediocre excuse was, maybe I could be on the winner’s page. If they had given up their weekend for me instead of meeting with their good for nothing friends, I might be the one everyone’s talking about. Hear what I’m saying? Sorry, sorry, I should stop. This isn’t about me, it’s about that shiny new Best of Year Press award you just won, which as it happens, is sponsored by the client my “creatives” should have been writing about here, The Sunday Times. If the “creatives” behind me had any sense they would know that not many people read copy of this volume, particularly when they are as inebriated as the attendees of this soirée. Thus the point of my existence, that The Sunday Times and PerthNow offer the greatest reach for creative messages to a combined audience of 815,000, should have been mentioned earlier; advertising 101. Oh well, maybe next year I’ll grace the illustrious winner’s page with a visit. Until then, congratulations, sincerely.
COPY - I’m supposed to be congratulating you for winning the coveted Best of Year Online award sponsored by PerthNow. So, I’ll just come out and say it, well done! Yeah, yeah, don’t let it go to your head; and don’t look down on lowly magazine ads like me. I know you digital types, all about experiential and interactive and all those buzz words. I bet you’re the kind of ad that’s being posted about on Facebook and Twitter, or some other flavour of the month social networking site right now. Yeah you are. How many people have re-tweeted you? Five? Ten? Fifty? Whatever. I mean it’s not like I wish I’d been a digital concept or anything. I guess my creatives could have slapped a QR code or some augmented reality on me or something. Come to think of it, why the hell didn’t they? Fools. They haven’t even mentioned that The Sunday Times and PerthNow offer the greatest reach for creative messages to a combined audience of 815,000, which is the whole reason I exist in the first place. Anyway, honestly, enjoy your award.
