WMATA Mobile Redesign

Metro Mobile Redesign
Mobile Design
My redesign for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) mobile website was the answer to this challenge: Make Something Simple.
Let’s take status of how the current site operates. Please note that in order to capture the mobile site’s use, I had to record it on my desktop. Go here if you want to experience it for yourself.
Alright. Well... even though I found the information I was looking for... it was a bit of a burden to get to. Taking this example, I sat down and drew up some plans that would streamline the process. My ultimate conclusion came down to three key areas: Organization, Design and UX, and leveraging native mobile features to enhance the experience.

Organization:

Hierarchy. Wow, the notion of hierarchy was not included in this website at all. It give equals priority to Panning Trips and Finding Arrival Times as it does to Contact Information, and seeing the original site. In fact, you have the ability to contact them from two different links on one page.
I propose combining certain sections in order to speed up navigation and arranging them differently.

Design & UX:

By cleaning up the type and enlarging the buttons, you have created an experience that is more focused, simple and easy to use.
Native Features:

Smart phones are commonly equipped with a Geo Location feature. Let’s leverage it!
Now, let’s see them in action via this motion comp I created in After Effects:
Scenario: Check the arrival time of the next bus at a local stop.
Just for kicks, lets take a walk through another example:
Scenario: You are new in town and need to get from your current location (Near the Capital) to Farragut North.
