 TRAIN PASSING
An exploration of image and sound.
Train Passing is a series of GIFs that explore the relationship of imagery and sound. In this case, the imagery is a collection of still frames from the daily NY commute — the MTA subway.

Often times, passengers are treated to the exhilarating moment of another train pulling up alongside, and like a dance — moving to and fro with one another, and then unwillingly letting up as the tracks diverge. In this spontaneous moment of movement, sound, and light — we people watch with great amusement, watching ourselves be ourselves.
GIF imagery creates vivid sound. Similar to the way vivid imagery is created as you read text in a book. This series of GIF imagery, each comprised of 41 still frames, conjure up sound memory — the imagined sound triggered by another sense (sight, smell, touch, or taste) — or vivid sound. Listen to the GIFs, can you hear the rattling, the conductor, the screeching...the musicians.
