The Wide Brown Land

Submission for Helou Studio's Exquisite Collective Project
I was invited to represent Australia in the Exquisite Collective project by Helou Studio. I used the iconic poem by Dorothea Mackellar that describes the harsh landscape of Australia that she loves as a starting point. I feel it represents the pioneer spirit and the romance of the landscape with us.
MY COUNTRY

I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains,
Of rugged mountain ranges, of drought and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jewel sea,
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me.
Though earth holds many splendours, wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country my homing thoughts will fly.

Core of my heart, my country, Land of the rainbow gold,
For flood and fire and famine She pays us back three fold.
I love her far horizons, I love her jewel sea,
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me.
Though earth holds many splendours, wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country my homing thoughts will fly.
