A Story of Dolac describes a purchase at the market through a jovial monologue of a customer. It’s presented through book form, completely hand-made (written and bound), made out of discarded paper bags collected from the market. Alongside the story, buoyant quips and catchphrases that vendors shout out to customers are inserted throughout the book. It’s exhibited with accompanying visualization (promotional poster).

This year’s eleventh edition of Zgraf paid special attention to students and graphic design, their engagement in workshops and the presentation of their works within the framework of EduZgraf.Twenty five students from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia participated in a three-day professional workshop, more precisely three thematically different workshops held at the Ulupuh Gallery. The workshops focused on the presence of graphic design and visual communications in the public sphere while attendants searched for ways of achieving responsible communication under the leadership of designer Dejan Dragosavac – Ruta.

The workshop theme is Dolac – the Zagreb farmers market located right in the city center as a place of direct exchange and communication of manufacturers and buyers along with its particular urbane dynamic. The most interesting aspects of this space are temporality (after closing hours, the space is open/vacant), advertising in the vernacular (“Tangerines from Metković are Super Sweet!”), the farmers market as a place of negotiable pricing (i.e. haggling), remnants from the market (collecting). The participants of this workshop dealt with each of these subtopics in small groups, exploring possibilities of implementing graphic design in this condensed communication and socio-cultural area of the market.
