Breathing New Life into A Classic Neighborhood Venue
The Renaissance is a premier event hall situated by the waterfront in Long Island City NY, close to Astoria Park, Socrates Park, about ten minutes from Manhattan by cab. Established ten years ago, the neighborhood around the Renaissance has undergone a major transformation as did the purposing of the space and vision for its future success by the current general manager. To reflect these changes in its marketing materials was the goal of the assignment for which you will find a few samples below.
BEFORE: LOGO
Departure from palette and aesthetic of the past. Contemporary fonts, warm grey, tribute paid to the large R from previous identity, and a punch of bright color to breathe new life into this business. My favorite aspect about it has to be the fact that the yellow detail appears to sit atop the i to form a complete and elegant tree. Suggesting stability and canopy.
NEW BUSINESS CARD
Subdued palette with punch of yellow, and subtle motif ensure the cards won't go out of style any time soon, and remain a favorite.

Next item on the client's list was a folder into which to place a brochure, estimate and other materials. Here a creative decision was made to repeat colors and elements from business card on the outside and on the inside a surprise of bold pattern and splashy color. It's worth mentioning that originally the pattern on the inside was a much bolder black and white but the client felt it was too bold and that she will tire of it quickly, so I increased opacity by 50% and voila! We arrived at a mutual agreement that made us both happy.

I received an ecstatic call last week when the printed materials arrived at the venue. The owner was thrilled and this of course is my favorite type of call to recieve. Looking forward to other projects with the Renaissance and wishing it much success.
