Self Promotion: Résumé & Job Application

Graduating from university, I entered into a job market still affected by the financial crisis of 2008. With more than enough skilled and experienced competitors, I needed a self-promotion piece that would make me stand out from the crowd.

The idea of a "cold war" style dossier manifested itself after a phone call with a design studio who informed me they would "file me" for a later occasion. This made me think about old, dusty folder cabinets - and I decided I should make something that would fit nicely there...

The concept of the dossier is the existence of a secret organization - "the Agency of Consideration and Establishment for Graphic Designers" - whose sole purpose is to locate untapped talent that might go unnoticed or (worse) be recruited by competitors in the industry.

Once such talent is found, the agency initiates an investigation before surfacing briefly with information and collected samples for a selected design studio. The group then dissolve and returns "underground", leaving the studio with the initiative for further review and contact.

Rather than handing over a link for a web portfolio, I wanted to leave something physical at the receiver's desk that showcased some of my skillset and versatility as a designer. The dossier was designed to spark attention and curiosity - but most importantly it had to trigger a smile on the receiving end.
