Rewriten story of Rumplestilzchen
Aimed at ages 4-6 years
Once upon a time in a far off kingdom there lived a king. He loved his kingdom and everyone in it, however they had a problem. Everyone and everything in the kingdom was stuck in black and white; the flowers, the trees, the houses and even the villagers.
In one of the houses there lived a greedy miller and his daughter. He loved money and was always looking for ways to make more. He knew that the king was looking for something colourful, and that he is also the richest man in the kingdom. So one day the miller went up to the kings castle. When the king answered, the miller told him that his daughter had the ability to weave him a cloak all the colours of the rainbow using any material. This is a lie and the poor daughter doesn’t even know how to weave. The king is delighted to hear this and hands the miller three gold coins.
The next morning, the greedy miller leaves his daughter at the castle door and runs away. The poor daughter was the locked at the top of a tower with just a spinning wheel and piles of hay. She had no way of making the cloak that the king wanted so she’ll be stuck in the tower forever. She then began to cry.
Suddenly a magical imp appeared in front of the daughter and introduced himself as Rumplestilzchen. He then asked her why she was crying. She tells him the whole story. He then tells her that he can help her in exchange for a song because he loved to dance. Luckily the girl was a good singer and sang a beautiful one for the imp. When she finished he smiled and they got to work making the cloak out of the only material they had available in the tower; hay.
Together they made a multi-coloured cloak that was so big it reached as far as the ceiling and out of the window of the tower. This was where the girl had a plan for the cloak that was better than giving it to the king. So that night, with the help of Rumplestilzchen, she instructed birds to drape the colourful cloak over the land. When everyone woke up the next morning, the entire kingdom had been transformed from dull black and white into every colour of the rainbow.
The king was so happy with what the girl had managed to do that there was a big celebration. Everyone was full of joy except for the greedy miller. Because of his wicked ways he was now the only person or thing in the whole kingdom that remained in black and white.
