Jej podstawowym założeniem jest przekonanie, że kultura i sztuka mogą stać się mechanizmem zmiany
społecznej i realnie wpływać na życie mieszkańców miasta. Przedsięwzięcie stawia na obecność artystów
w defaworyzowanych obszarach miasta.
Formuła pracowni polega na zaproszeniu artystów reprezentujących szeroko rozumiany nurt sztuki krytycznej, a następnie skonfrontowaniu ich z konkretnymi problemami społecznymi. Powstała swoista „mapa problemów miasta” opracowana przez socjologów, wskazująca na obszary dotknięte: wykluczeniem, przynależnością etniczną, przemocą, nietolerancję, prostytucję, biedą, gentryfikację.

Concise description of the undertaking.
The studio of socially engaged art / The Districts is an interdisciplinary event; its fundamental principle is
to express itself in the conviction that culture and art may transform themselves in a mechanism of social change and have an influence on the life of the inhabitants. This undertaking leans to the presence of eminent artists who are linked with current of the critical art in urban neglected spaces. Their presence will assume
a residential character. During their residence, permanent works will be realised in co-operation with the inhabitants. These works will penetrate into the urban landscape by commenting on the problems in
a particular place, the objective of which will be a transformation of the surroundings. This enterprise diverges from the formula of a festival for the benefit of continuity and the processes of future events in urban spaces.
