Promotional Spoke Light

Promotional Spoke Light
Brief:
To design a new, original promotional product that can be branded. Total cost for one unit must be under £2.50.
My approach was to design a promotional product that was functional so that people would actually want to use it. Spoke lights are not common but offer additional visibility to cyclists from the side, where conventional bicycle lights fail to project light.
This product would mainly be aimed at cycling commuters as the user may have to ride at busy times and in poor visibility conditions but ultimately any cyclist could use this product.
The initial proposal of the spoke light. There is space for printed branding on the sides.
How the initial concept was to fit onto the wheels of a bicycle.
A working prototype of the developed product was produced.

Further development changed the fixing method of the light onto the wheel. The prototype proved that the fixing method did work, but it rattled in the wheel when riding over rougher surfaces.
The final design incorporated a wedge fixing method, similar to wheel reflectors. This method will prevent the rattling as the light will not be able to move.
