The word Play is significant in the definition of childhood youth - it is the motivating factor that pushes children from class to recess and recess to class again. Initially I was inspired to conceptualize this because of both recent events and the greater problem that society faces. With the popularization of gun violence in news, television, video games and many other methods of communication, we've seen a growing epidemic of violent outbreaks in supposedly safe communities. The contrast of bold, black outlines of the guns and the colorful toys emphasizes the danger of the early exposure of weapons to children. The dirt represents the omnipresence of weapons surrounding children in developing countries, such as Congo and Columbia.
