Brief
The MCCA (Malta Council for Culture and the Arts) approached Switch, as happens every year,
to create the identity and collateral for the 23rd Edition of the Malta Jazz Festival, held in 2013.
The MCCA's only requirement was to give the identity that African tribal feel.

Solution
Typography was always going to play a major role in this project, and a balanced mixture of serif and sans-serif faces, of different weights, gave the 'Edition' logo a nostalgic character reminiscent of the classic LP covers' typography.
Modifications and effects implemented gave the 'Edition' logo a worn look, with colours chosen and patterns inserted further enhancing the African theme.
General Identity
The identity kept on showcasing the LP idea (brainchild of Mike Azzopardi, Creative Director at Switch), combining illustration, typography, and image manipulation to create a powerful and emotional identity, reflective of the passion evident during the Malta Jazz Festival performances.
